Remember Rings . . .

I've slipped a bit in eating lately and have been eating more carbs. I'm sticking with the excuse that it's because I've had a head cold. For a couple days orange juice sounded better than anything else did. So I drank it.

I have, of course, experienced the consequences -- water retention, carb cravings and weight gain. So starting today I'm going to wear my 'Remember Rings.'

I've got two pinkie rings that are silver and turqouise. I'm wearing them to remind myself of two things that really help me feel healthier:

1. No snacking. Three balanced meals a day is enough.

2. Don't forget to pray. (I'm trying to make morning prayer a habit. This morning I said mine standing up in front of the washer and dryer. That's where I was when I remembered that I'd forgotten to check in with The Man Upstairs.)

No snacking? I could never do that! You are way too dedicated. I admire you for all your willpower! I could not go a day without a wheat thing, graham cracker, or any other high carb snack! Good on you. I am going to read that book linking depression with carbs. That is interesting....

Good for you and the pink rings. I hope that helps. I, too, need some serious focus. Physical therapy makes me tired, a bit sad, and wanting treats! The drive home is one constant psychological battle. You know, the one that goes, "I could really use an ice cream cone, or a small hamburger, maybe some chips? NO! I can make it home! I do not need a treat when I feel yucky. I will feel worse if I eat that stuff. . ." On and on until I make it home. Today, it was a really long drive. May the force continue to be with you!

I don't think it's such a crime to give in to a craving when you've got a cold or some other kind of bug or virus. For me, I try to make it as healthy as possible, e.g., eat an orange instead of drinking processed juice. I've found that it helps me to eat more protein than usual when I'm under the weather. I get well faster. Lee in Nashville
